Laser vein treatment:

Certain small caliber veins can be treated with our YAG laser. The gold standard for leg vein treatment is first sclerotherapy. Any veins too small to treat with sclerotherapy or any matting (tiny new vessel formation that can result for sclerotherapy) can be treated with the YAG laser.

The YAG laser penetrates deep into the skin to remove blood vessels and dark hairs. It is used to treat vessels ranging from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins anywhere including the face and legs. Once a vessel is treated, blood flow is redirected to veins deeper below the skin’s surface. The number of treatments necessary depends on the quantity, color, and size of the vessels being targeted. Most patients note significant improvement within 2-6 weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, new veins may appear, and they can be treated as well.

Are there any side effects?

Our office has 2 YAG lasers which both have cooling systems built into the device to help minimize discomfort. Pretreatment cooling or topical anesthetics can be used to improve comfort as well. Immediate redness and swelling may occur which resolve in minutes to several hours. Bruising may occur as well which resolves over days.
